This piece was inspired by cave paintings and the hand stencil, a timeless image that links us to our ancestors across millennia and is synonymous with the human desire to leave our mark on history.

 

Each individual hand stencil has been contributed by one of my fellow makers and preserved within layers as ladles of molten glass were poured into the mould. The traces of sand evoke the earthy aesthetic of ancient cave art and its inextricable link with geology.
